Our aim is to expand rapidly to provide other modern utility services, such as cooking, internet access and water. We are constantly searching and realising innovative solutions to provide the best value services to our customers. At the heart of BBOXX is our pioneering management platform, called BBOXX Pulse, which continuously collects data and insights, enabling us to provide our services to previously unreachable populations. BBOXX has installed more than 150,000 solar home systems, with a strong presence in Rwanda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Togo. At BBOXX, we are constantly investing into innovations in hardware, software, financing and distribution to build smart technologies and comprehensive utility solutions. We have created and combined hardware and software to bring a high quality, on-grid experience to off-grid locations. Our customised solutions are designed to answer all needs in the market and transform the lives of underserved people. Each unit connects remotely to our remote management system to give customer support, predict repairs and assist upgrades.
– bPower50, is designed for rural off-grid customers. Once connected, the bPower50 is ready to power lights, radio, TV and charge phones for household and micro-business customers. It comes with a 50W roof mounted solar panel, 17 Ah SLA battery and Is capable of providing 100 Wh daily usable energy.
– bPower300 provides reliable PAYG energy to a range of customers between rural and urban settings for residential and commercial use. It comes with a 300W roof mounted solar panel, 60 Ah Li battery and can provide up to 650 Wh daily usable energy, supporting larger DC appliances including refrigerators, TVs and pedestal fans.
– BBOXX Hub enables businesses to remotely manage customers and products at scale. It has the capability of connecting to BBOXX Pulse, which can then be used to support PAYG payment plans, provide proactive maintenance and simplify support. The Hub can be deployed in a wide range of large solar installations, as well as in projects involving water pumps, irrigation systems and smart metering.
– BBOXX Pulse is a comprehensive management platform that enables the growth of next generation, global utility businesses. Pulse brings together BBOXX’s technological and operational excellence, derived from over nine years of dedicated innovation and on-the-ground expertise. Distributed utility businesses in developing countries face a common challenge: managing scale as customers, products and employees are dispersed across remote locations. We created Pulse to tackle these barriers to scaling.
Today, nearly 1,000,000 underserved people benefit from our clean, reliable and affordable electricity. BBOXX directly contribute to 6 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a sizeable impact on reducing inequalities.
With a strong presence globally in 12 countries in Africa and Asia, BBOXX is scaling rapidly by forging strategic partnerships with investors, governments, telecommunication firms and energy majors. The scale of the challenge is huge. 1.1 billion people globally live without access to electricity. This is also the size of the opportunity. But the provision of electricity is the entry point as it creates demand in other areas such as gas, water, internet, finance, white goods a demand which the company also seeks to meet.
The co-founders of BBOXX met at Imperial College London while studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering. All three had travelled in the developing world and recognised the challenge posed to community and business development by the unreliable electrical supply. In response, the trio founded a successful student charity, which exposed the potential for off-grid solar solutions in the developing world. A for-profit venture, BBOXX is the result.
Today, BBOXX journey has three clear steps and we have already taken strides as the company’s trajectory pivots from solar company, to utility provider, to a platform.
