An opportunity has arisen to join the Portfolio Management & Strategy team at Cubico Sustainable Investments as Analyst. Reporting into the Head of Portfolio Management & Strategy, this role’s main responsibility is to support the team in the company wide valuation processes and in portfolio management/strategy initiatives.

About the Portfolio Management and Strategy team

The work of the PM&S team is split into three broad areas:

1.      Valuation – perform semi-annual reports to assess market returns and the Fair Value of our assets, reporting these to Executive Committee and Shareholders

2.      Portfolio Management – conduct action-orientated analysis of the Portfolio’s performance today and in the future against key metrics

3.      Strategy – identify and develop Cubico’s strategies and associated execution plans to improve the business’s overall performance, leading discrete projects to successfully position Cubico for future business needs

Key Responsibilities

This is a wide-ranging and highly engaging role, with exposure to a broad set of stakeholders, including Local Teams across all Cubico’s geographies, central in-house teams based in London, the Executive Committee, and our Shareholders.

The Analyst will work across all areas of PM&S work. Based on business demands and our work cycle, the proportion of these three will fluctuate throughout the year. Key accountabilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the team in delivering semi-annual company wide Valuation Process
  • Review the models received from different geographies, auditing valuation assumptions, querying value movements and ensuring that all changes are defendable and consistent
  • Manage, control and update the internal system that consolidates all the valuation inputs and outputs provided by Local Teams for all of the Company’s assets
  • Support the team in the audit process related to the Fair Value of the Company
  • Support the team in producing the final Valuation Report
Portfolio Management
  • Update and own a Corporate Model, where we consolidate all the Company’s assets
  • Help the team to improve portfolio controls, metrics, analysis, largely focussing on the assessment of the Portfolio’s value resilience, the risk-return dynamics of existing and future investments, and the optimisation of valuation assumptions.
  • Support the team on developing and delivering several Strategy workstreams for delivery to the Executive Committee and Country Heads
  • Examples of workstreams include:
    • Annual Country Reviews
    • Cubico’s Innovation path
    • Preparation for strategy discussions and materials
    • Research of industry dynamics, macro trends, regulatory developments and new technologies, etc
    • Support Cubico’s 3-year Strategy Review in 2022

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

The successful candidate will have the following characteristics:
  • Ability to demonstrate logical thinking, with excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical and reasoning skills
  • Organised and strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strive for continuous improvement and innovation
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, mainly in Excel and Powerpoint
  • Self-starter who can manage a full and varied workload and deadlines
  • Proactive and pragmatic with a positive attitude and can-do approach
  • Enthusiastic and able to take ownership of own work
  • Eagerness to learn in a dynamic and fast evolving company and market
  • 2-3 years of work experience. Experience in infrastructure equity investments is favourable with a strong preference for renewable energy investments
  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline and experience in Corporate finance, investment, strategy, financial analysis, valuation
  • A good understanding of valuation, valuation techniques, investment analysis and their nuances
  • Financial modelling skills, with the ability to interrogate and sensitise renewable energy project models and build/re-build the whole, or elements of the Corporate Model
  • Previous experience in multi-geography environments
  • Fluent in English. A second language (preferably Spanish, Italian or Portuguese) will be looked upon favourably
