This is an exciting opportunity for a Cost Data Analyst to join Bulb’s growing Finance Planning & Analysis team, at the strategic heart of one of Europe’s fastest growing companies.
At Bulb, FP&A is not just budgeting and reporting, it’s also strategy. We are looking for an analyst who can help us build accurate data definitions and reporting, but also questions what we should be building and why. We need someone who can communicate with stakeholders around the business to diagnose problems, then use their analytical skills to solve them.
You don’t need to have loads of experience, but you must have loads of potential. This is a great opportunity for a smart, motivated person to turbocharge their career. We are a non-hierarchical environment – if you want to make something happen, the floor is yours. Plus you’ll have regular exposure to the leadership team from Day 1.
You must be experienced in both SQL/database management and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, so that you can build a granular, bottom up cost forecast and reconcile invoices vs. that forecast. You’ll be numerate, logical and thorough with strong attention to detail when reconciling invoices vs. our forecasted costs. You will be comfortable contacting suppliers to challenge invoices if necessary. Experience in the energy industry and an understanding of our direct costs is an advantage.
-Use Bulb’s cost data warehouse to generate systematic cost analysis
-Forecast our UK network, distribution, environmental and social costs including DUoS, TNUoS, BSUoS, FIT, and Capacity market charges, and check that we have the correct accruals and provisions in our accounts
-Reconcile invoiced costs vs. forecasted accruals and industry dataflows
-Work cross functionally with other Bulb teams to analyse invoiced costs
-Produce regular reporting of our forecasted vs. actual costs to feed into monthly finance team variance analysis
-Create dashboards in Looker to help others around Bulb understand our costs
-Challenge suppliers where the amount invoiced does not match the accrual; work with suppliers to reduce time needed to process invoices
Must have skills
–SQL modelling – able to manipulate, analyse and model data with a high level of accuracy
-Excel modelling – can take data extracted using SQL and other data sources, then combine them into accurate and easily understood models
-Thorough with strong attention to detail Great communication skills and confident working with stakeholders across the business including management
-Team player: you see your work as part of the team’s overall plan, and within that you’re happy either driving your own project or supporting team members with theirs
-Ownership mentality: don’t just execute what’s asked of you, consider whether it could be done a better way
-Can-do attitude: Bulb is a fast-paced environment and sometimes stressful, you need to be resilient and calm under pressure
Nice to have skills (but not essential)
