Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification?

Nuclear Fusion, the process that powers the Sun and stars, can play a big part in generating an abundant, safe and low carbon energy for the future. The UK Atomic Energy Authority manages the UK`s national fusion programme and we have an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team within the Central Engineering department. You will be responsible for leading the design work on major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design, and to support the work plan and projects on enhancement programs and future fusion devices.

Key accountabilities will include:
-Develop and effectively implement systems for managing design requirements and interfaces, and processes for ensuring satisfactory performance/compliance, and ensure these are adopted by design teams
-Supervise on site contractors / junior designers and students, providing them with challenging projects, monitoring their progress and sharing constructive feedback
-Act as a Technical Reference for the organisation in areas of knowledge.
-Lead in raising the standard for the group and be proactive in defining new systems or processes that enhance the productivity
-Accountable for design aspects relating to all assigned systems / components including repair, replacement or upgrade activities

Knowledge skills and experience

 

Essential
-HNC/Degree qualified in an electrical engineering subject
-Proven track record of delivering complex technical projects of a sizeable physical scale
-Expert in Electrical Engineering implementation, with a strong foundation in design and development.
-Good oral and written communication skills
-Ability to deal with uncertainty and have the ability to inspire a can-do approach amongst team members.
-Flexible in responding to unforeseen changes, minimising the impact on technical delivery.
-Have experience in using the AutoCAD CAD system.
-Be qualified in the latest version of the IET 18th Edition wiring regulations.

 

Desirable
-Completed full apprenticeship in electrical engineering
-Experience with Functional Safety of Machinery, BS EN 13849, BS EN 61508
-Experience with ATEX & DSEAR
-Experience with 3D CAD packages
-Leading teams and supervising other staff
-Experience with relevant environmental factors such as vacuum, transient magnetic fields & radiological issues.
