Job title: Flavour Development Manager

Reports to: Head of NPD

Purpose of role:

The role is pivotal in bring internal flavour expertise that can be used to deliver optimal flavour delivery in new and existing products to enable us competitive advantage and therefore enable our commercial growth plans in line with our business objectives.

Special Features:

  1. Flavour Selection: Responsible for Flavour selection on products by selecting optimal flavours for projects according to specification requirements (i.e. customer, consumer, regulation, legislation, cost) and build the value proposition
  2. Front End innovation/ concept development support: Support in applying flavours and food ingredients to food products and recipes used for testing and demonstrating purpose/concept testing/consumer research
  3. Flavour Supplier collaboration and evaluation: Lead supplier evaluations of flavours and flavours delivery systems in potential future opportunities/applications for Quorn products.
  4. Competitive Flavour Benchmarking: Actively measure, monitor, maintain and improve flavour performance against competitors
  5. Global/Regional/Local Flavour Development: Lead in building local, regional and global flavour “collections” by selecting the best most appropriate flavours, leveraging technical information, sensory panelling techniques, flavour suppliers capabilities, consumer, customer & commercial insights in line business commercial business growth strategy.

Key Tasks/Accountabilities:

Flavour Selection:

  • Lead supplier evaluations, development and raising the standard of flavours and flavours delivery systems in potential future opportunities/applications for Quorn products.
  • Building internal capability about how we assess, talk about and develop flavouring

Competitive Flavour Benchmarking:

  • Actively measure, monitor, maintain and improve flavour performance against competitors

Global/Regional/ Local Flavour Development:

  • Lead in building local, regional and global flavour “collections” by selecting the best most appropriate flavours, leveraging technical information, sensory panelling techniques, flavour suppliers capabilities, consumer, customer & commercial insights in line business commercial business growth strategy.

Team Support:

  • Contribute to team meetings
  • Give advice and support to team members
  • Work closely with other relationship holders, senior managers and knowledge managers

  • Keep up to date with product/service developments
  • Develop technical skills

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • BSC in food science, chemistry Biology
  • Good Understand and experience of food ingredients, product development and industrial food production processes
  • Demonstrate tasting skills and able to effectively describe the flavour profile of the product and provide direction to technical teams for flavour modifications
  • Have a basic understanding of project management and the product development/ innovation process
  • Contribute and influence technical discussions and project meetings
  • Demonstrate the ability to form good working relationship with flavour suppliers and leverage their full capabilities
  • Has a wider breadth of experience and track record of delivery new flavour into success food products

Desirable:

  • Has worked in a food/FMCG companies before
