We are looking for a Group Assistant Accountant to ensure the provision of quality financial information for The Big Issue Company and The Big Issue Group. The role will work closely with the Big Issue Finance Team, and other Big Issue managers, primarily focusing on Revenue.

 

You will work with the Group Management Accountant and wider Finance team to help manage Group Banking bank reconciliations, the month end process, weekly revenue reporting and, to assist in the preparation of the monthly management accounts.  You will also work closely with other employees of The Big Issue, helping them to understand the financial implications of their role.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

Financial management

 

  • Collation of weekly skims from branches, notification of late skims and banking
  • Assisting with Management of multiple bank accounts
  • Bank reconciliations and other income accounts e.g. Paypal, Stripe
  • Maintenance of weekly cash flow reporting, categorising all transactions
  • Posting of all Street Sales, Subscriptions and other income and bank transactions
  • Balance Sheet reconciliations relating to revenue, accrued income, deferred income
  • Assisting with annual external audit in accordance with Group timetable
  • Assisting with ABC Audit
  • Raising Advertising and other Income invoices

Business support

 

  • Preparation of Weekly Circulation and Sales report
  • Assisting in Preparation of Management accounts
  • Financial and variance analysis, as requested to support preparation of Board Pack
  • Assisting with Revenue budget preparation

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Previous accounting experience
  • Educated to A level/Degree level
  • Experience of working effectively with non-finance stakeholders and varying communication styles to suit audiences
  • Experience of assessing financial risk and being able to communicate this in a timely manner
  • Excellent attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and Excel skills- eg SUMIF, VLOOKUP.
  • Excellent time management, with the ability to work to deadlines and reprioritise tasks when required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

•    Salary commensurate with the third sector, which can be confirmed on request.
