Saietta is a well-established British R&D company on a mission to accelerate the market introduction of highly innovative, affordable, and reliable propulsion motors for a broad range of electric vehicles (EVs) from scooters to buses. The product is proven, and market pull is strong. Since 2016 Saietta has undertaken rigorous R&D and testing for an innovative, unique motor topology, with low-cost raw materials, designed for low-cost, automated assembly. Saietta is now evolving from a pure R&D company into one that also manufactures its own motors in a new European production plant.



This is an exciting and challenging role for an ambitious control systems engineer with experience of developing control strategies for electric motors using Matlab / Simulink.

Typical involvements / requirements


You will be joining a small team of R&D engineers involved with the concept design, simulation and modelling of electric motors. Your role will be to develop control strategies and work in conjunction with 3rd party controller / inverter developers, and in-house test and development engineers to calibrate, commission and develop efficient motor control systems.



  • Design and implementation of control algorithms for electric motors / e-machines (traction motors)
  • Control strategy development and modelling of dynamic systems (e.g. MATLAB / Simulink / Modelica / Python)
  • A degree or higher coupled with relevant industry experience (or perhaps a relevant PhD)

This motor control engineer role will involve supporting new motor design projects as well as improving existing control strategies. You will need good experience of developing control algorithms using Matlab / Simulink tools.


Expected skills and experience:


  • A degree, Masters or PhD in a relevant subject area (e.g. control systems, mechatronics, electrical engineering, etc)
  • At least 3-4 years of industry experience (or a relevant PhD) within electric machine / motor control design using Matlab / Simulink. (ideally traction motor control)
  • Control strategy development and modelling of dynamic systems (e.g. MATLAB / Simulink / Modelica / Python)
  • Experience of working on automotive electric vehicle projects would be preferable but is not essential
  • A good understanding of 3 phase electric motor control (PMSM etc) including torque control, current control, and modulation strategies.
  • Excellent organisation, planning, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with test bench setup and vehicle level testing would be useful.
  • Engineers that have worked within an automotive tier 1, tier 2 or design consultancy environment on relevant control systems projects would be great.
  • Knowledge of system engineering processes/tools may be useful (e.g. FMEA, FTA, functional safety etc.)
