Tili, a home move assistant created by Spark Energy. Initially developed to help customers renting a new home to find a better energy deal with Spark, Tili has grown into a critical customer onboarding tool for the OVO Group.

Our vision is for Tili to help people move to a renewable energy supplier, or recommend more energy-efficient household appliances, or show actionable insights from a building’s energy report. We’ve plenty of ideas on how to be useful and are just getting started.

Our first version has seen a positive response from early adopters, but it prioritises the needs of the property industry and Spark Energy. We’re exploring our business model ensuring we become much more consumer-centric and better serve the OVO Group. We’re not tied to what we’ve created so far, and we’re seeking engineers to help us explore where we can go next.

You’ll join a small, highly collaborative team with a lean startup mentality but the resources of the UK’s largest independent energy supplier. We value testing ideas fast and iterating based on feedback. If you’re looking for something to stretch you, this is a great opportunity.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You’ll be working within a small team of Software Engineers, working on an exciting project within the OVO Group.

We trust our development teams to choose their tech stacks, here you’ll commonly encounter Clojure, TypeScript, Node, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, React, Cypress and React Native. We run our services in GCP, AWS and Azure.

Is this the job for me?

We’re interested in hands on engineers with expertise in at least one programming language – if your experience doesn’t match our stack exactly then don’t worry, we hire based on software engineering talent, not language-specific skillset. Interested in us? We’re interested in you!

We’re interested in engineers with deep experience in similar technologies and also polyglots who are comfortable working across the stack.

You’re the right person for us if

  • You are genuinely passionate about developing products that will positively impact over a million people and also our environment
  • You love working in teams and collaboratively building features that impact customers
  • You are motivated by owning products, from inception to continuous improvement
  • You believe strongly in test driven development and continuous delivery
  • You love building scalable, resilient solutions
  • You seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge
  • You have built or contributed to a variety of systems, ideally in different technologies
  • Knowledge of the best engineering practices and continuous delivery
  • You have experience building highly performant applications

Ideally you will have:
