The Role:

We currently pack and deliver over 50,000 boxes a week to homes in London and the South East of England. We are growing rapidly, constantly expanding our reach and are planning for deliveries in the Midlands and North of England this year. We are offering a unique opportunity to be part of this journey.

The Technical Manager will design and establish the new Technical function within our Sourcing Team. You will be responsible for our quality assurance and technical processes as well as providing the expertise to engage end to end from suppliers through to customers. You’ll work closely with our Sourcing, Operations and Customer Happiness teams to ensure the best possible customer experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collating and managing due diligence information from suppliers

  • Working with Buyers to complete new supplier approvals

  • Managing end to end quality protocols and ensuring they are being adhered to

  • Working closely with buyers to provide guidance on product seasonality, growing regions and managing sourcing challenges

  • Technical supplier visits and audits

  • Work closely with the Sustainability Manager and the wider ODDBOX team on our sustainability and CSR mission

  • Ensuring compliance with all aspects of food safety and legislation

  • Monitoring of co-packer intake and production QC performance

  • Ensuring Customer quality complaints are within target levels

  • Technical supplier performance/scorecard evaluations in place

What we’re looking for:

  • A minimum of 5 years fresh produce experience in a technical role within the supply base or retailer

  • Experience managing a team as well as the ability to work independently

  • Extensive experience working directly with growers and fresh produce suppliers as well as working in a packing/production environment

  • Experience serving the end consumer, ideally within a direct to consumer model

  • Demonstrable ownership of product quality KPIs

  • Experience creating and implementing processes and systems to improve and/or manage product quality

  • A clear understanding of fresh produce growing conditions and challenges; product seasonality and growing regions; and pesticides and other technical aspects of fresh produce

  • Delivery of compliance in fresh produce site and food safety

  • Experience leading internal and external audits

  • Qualified in Food Science or Food Technology

  • HACCP level 4 preferable, level 3 minimum

  • Food safety qualified

  • Qualified auditor desirable

  • Understanding of BRC requirements

  • Strong awareness and understanding of food legislation

  • High performing communicator across all levels of the business, including with suppliers and growers

  • Very high level of attention to detail, understanding the need for continual improvement programs

  • Experience of NPD processes and own brand product as well as non-fresh produce categories

Other details:

  • Salary – 40k – 50k depending on experience

  • Start date – April 2021 onwards, depending on notice period

  • Duration of role – permanent / full-time

  • Schedule – Mon-Fri

  • Location – Time to be split between working from home, our office and our co-packing sites.

  • In addition, there will be the opportunity to visit third party partners as and when required. You will be compensated travel expenses for these.
